Solid debut for Gottwaldová

03/02/2024

Junior national champion Amálie Gottwaldová secured a ninth-place finish in her debut at the World Championships. As a "rookie," she has the potential to improve her placement next year.

How do you view today's race from your perspective?

It was an incredibly tough race. I tried to stay as close to the front as possible right from the start, in contact with the best riders. In the challenging, muddy terrain, it was incredibly slow; today was much about strength and avoiding mistakes. Unfortunately, it wasn't my best race. I tried to deliver my best performance. In the end, I'm glad to have finished in the top ten.

You gradually moved forward during the race. Do you think if there was one more lap, your placement would have been better?

It's hard to say. I don't know how the other competitors were doing. But it's true that the last lap was definitely the best for me.

Was the track similar to yesterday, or was it something different?

It was something completely different. Today, the mud was much firmer; it behaves differently than yesterday.

Did you notice the fans?

The fans were amazing, and the atmosphere was absolutely magical. I am incredibly proud of them. They pushed me forward unbelievably throughout the entire race.

How would you evaluate this cyclocross season?

It was very beneficial; as a "rookie," I gained a lot of experience. I'm glad I worked my way into the top ten. Next year, I would like to aim for a medal.
